Johnnie Gins, a resident artist at Vis Arts in Rockville, MD, designs one-of-a-kind jewelry using gold, silver and found objects. During the summer months she weaves wall hangings, window valances and rugs using men's ties. People bring Johnnie their grandfather's or father's family ties to be woven into a treasured keepsake. The income from the sale of her weavings supports a crisis center and home for abused women and children in North Carolina.
