Josie was born in Washington, DC and graduated from Vassar College in 1944. Moved with her parents to Chapel Hill in 1942. She majored in child study and minored in art. Josie taught art in New Orleans. She joined Shared Learning in 1981 and worked and exhibited at Womancraft for 3 years.
